-- due to a tree down. they're in the process of chopping up that tree and getting it out of your way. on route 4, that's where the have the stalled car blocking the right lane. also julie police investigating a deadly early morning accident at an construction area off beltway, it's about 12:30 this morning. maryland state police a dump struck driver was standing on his truck reachen to get something when another defer truck backed up hit the truck's other door and crushed the victim. in d.c. police are investigating a deadly shooting, the sick one this month in the same neighborhood. a man was found shot to death last nigh. police have not released the victim's name and have not made any arrests at this point. it was less than two weeks ago when college freshman and former capitol hill hopkins was shot and killed. a man was arrested in connection with that shooting. police investigating the murder of northern virginia

teenager are now looking over some possible new clues. she was found dead in her car more than two weeks ago. the car was at the fairfax plaza shopping center at about 3:00. a few minutes later she updated her facebook page to say she landed work. call me fran dresser, i'm a nanny. she was found dead behind the wheel just ten minutes after that. >> the day she died she was interviewing with a family that mutual friend of hours had suggested that she had -- our friend had nannied for her before. i helped her with craig's list because that's how i found my job. >> she received several e-mail responses to the ad. police are not commenting on whether it's something they're investigating. a cab driver accused of sexually assaulting a passenger. an arrest warrant has been warn

-- an arrest warrant has been out there. he attacked her in the back of her cab after he picked her up in silver springs. he worked for regency cab company. he has since been fired from his job. maryland state police have issued a silver alert for a man. he's 72 years old. police say he has condition medical issues. he is white, about 6-3. 270 pounds. last seen leaving his home at 4:00 p.m. tuesday. if you have any information call the sheriff's department. virginia attorney general is showing support for arizona's controversial crack down on illegal immigrants. yesterday a legal brief was filed on behalf of virginia and eight other states backing that law. that law in arizona allows police and other law enforcement to inquire about a person's immigration status

when they're being questioned for other reasons if they believe that person has been in here -- it beefs up what they believe is lack of federal enforcement of immigration laws. it's designed to stop the oil of dumping into the oil. bp says it has detected a leak in one of the lines that can tunnel the oil up to a ship. no word yet on how the leak might affect the timing of the operation. biologists that say the oil has hit louisiana's largest sea bird nesting area, raccoon island. that number could be significantly under estimated the -- duns of pell cans were spotted covered in oil. brown pell cans were taken off the endangered species list last year. it's 6:06 now. coming up next an incredible

you like. it's gong to be -- it's going to be fine. it will be hot. it's the middle of summertime. our temperatures will be above normal. we're going to start with your weather headlines for today. temperatures do move back into the 90s after a few days into the 80s, well into the 90s. less humid today than it was yesterday. it's a trade off. less humid, it will be warmer. it's not going to drop our temperatures a whole lot. could bring showers and thunderstorms. that's what we -- let's take a look at current temperaturess with -- as we dropped off again a little bit. 75 degrees in the district. they've dropped off there. 72 degrees in quantic, 72 in baltimore. winchester, virginia is 72

degrees. you'll note to the south and east our dew point is very uncomfortable, 72 for dew point in east ton. we've got very warm dew points there, those of you who say it's a little less humid, the you're off to east if you step outside you're going to go he's crazy. it's the same as it was. we've got cooler dew points. and that's what's working its way in here. that's going to continue to happen during the course of morning hours that will drop your humidity somewhat. let's go back to the graphic satellite radar composite. we're between two systems. the system that brought us the rain pushing offshore now. the lingering rain that we had in southern maryland portions of virginia that's gone out to the west that's a cold front that i told you about. that's going to move through here but not until late friday during the day saturday that's when eel see showers and thunderstorms. for today though dry, sunny

clarksburg. you guys coming southbound trying to work your way out of 109, better yet jump over to 105 heading to 121. eastbound 66 lanes are open. no problems to report. and again leaving 50 headed eastbound towards 123, northbound -- no incidents to report. that's a check of fox 5 on time traffic. >> new york congressman denying stiffing a cabby out of $8. the driver says he wanted him to take him from union station to his hotel and keep the meter running why he dropped off his luggage. according to taxy cab commission if a reaches his destination wants the driver to wait or go to another location that will be considered a new trip. he refused to pay and took off. >> not paying me and taking another cab, it's unacceptable. i feel so bad.

foreclosure rate in the u.s. hitting a record number this year, it's on track to top 1 million. last year it was more than 900,000. nearly 528,000 homes were taken over by lenders. >> the news is still mixed for the diabetes drug avandia let's up to new york with our friend chris cotter. let's talk about the market was kind of flat yesterday. >> reporter: flat, but not so bad. we rallied in the last year to get the flag group here given the fact we didn't have much in the way of corporate earnings report that is what has driven us. what we've seen over the last couple of months that trend did continue. economic data not great. you had the feds coming out and saying offensively the possibility of double dip is still on the table, even though

as we all know the feds don't have many bullets left in their guns to be able to fix it. that kind of worried investigators a little bit. we got some okay data on retail sales not great. the mortgage data that we got through mortgage applications down to 14 year low last week. so the economic data wasn't great. to be able to finish up down flat on the s and p500. we've got a lot of corporate earnings, google, later on today and jp morgan chase coming up in a few minutes actually. >> one stock that was up yesterday glasgow, after fda panel says that the diabetes drug could stay on the market although fda doesn't have to follow those recommendations. >> right. you still have to think there's a marketing element here as well to it, in sales of -- are going to plum because people are so concerned even though this panel by a vote of two-

cap. >> already this morning there's been a hit. matt alkaline is live. >> there are a lot of people keeping their fingers corroded this morning. we've got some good news and bad news. let me take you through the good news. that cap at 275 has been placed over here. one of the choked lines that leads into that cap has basically started to leak, so it's leaking oil. that's a big problem. you might be able to look in the right section of the screen here. there's actually one of those mechanical submarines working on the leak as we speak. there you can see it there. let's take you to some video real quick. i want to show you what that cap looks like as it was being lowered down, 75-tons. the big concern here is once it gets into place and that leak is fixed they have to pressurize it and they have to be very careful with that process. a number of obama administrations have been in the area the last couple of

days including the surgeon general, and also attorney general eric holder who was there to assure residents to assure not only will bp pay but other organizations there. >> i've had a clear message for the people of louisiana, we've been through a lot we're going to win this war to get our lives back. we are bound and determined to hold anybody or any corporation that was responsible for it to hold it accountable and we will do so. >> reporter: back out live now, boy it doesn't look too good does it? there's still a lot of oil leaking from there. the idea is within 48 hours they hope to get this choke line fixed. they hope to get the cap sealed into place and what they're looking at is either to seal it completely and shut off the leak or be able torsiven some of that oil up to the ships above. >> we'll look for the update. thanks a lot. we're following the murder of college student of fairfax county who was home for the

summer. the 19-year-old was found dead in her car more than two weeks ago. ross slater has the development. >> reporter: shows vanessa's car entering the fairfax shopping center. we know about nine minutes later this status update popped up on call me fran dresser i'm a nanny. i do remember seeing that she had updated her status and it had a little logo sign so it was from her cell phone. >> the 19-year-old design student was home for the summer and looking for work. it was good news she had landed a job. >> know she was looking for work. i was one that suggested she become a summer nanny. i was happy for her. >> what they don't know who she was going to work for. >> the day that she died she was interviewing with a family that mutual friend of hours had

suggested that she had our friend had nannied for before. i helped her with craig's list because that's how i found my job. it was very general, i'm a college student home for the summer. she had gotten several e-mail responses to the ad but they don't believe it played any role in her death. fairfax county police will not comment on whether it's something they're investigating. what we do know she stopped off. her car leaving the shopping center at 3:24. ten minutes later half a mile away she was found dead behind the wheel of her car. >> it definitely is frustrating just because, you know, like we just want to find out who did it. >> reporter: investigators best hope may be if someone in the cars and trucks around noticed anything suspicious. >> if anyone remembers anything if they were in this area that day, any information would be

helpful. they might not think it's important but someone in law enforcement might. >> reporter: i'm ross slater fox 5 news. it's attracted the attention of america's most wanted which is asking viewers for help. sandra leevy habitue could get samples. they hope to compare the samples to letters they were written. they contain threats to witnesses of admissions about the murder. nobody writes exactly the same twice within a range of variation. what they will do if they particularly they say he is trying to distort or disguise his handwriting it becomes obvious. they will make him repeat that many many times. >> he dis-- she disappeared in 2001. the trial is set for early october. cleveland cavaliers star don tae wes, he was arrested last year for speeding on his

motorcycle on the beltway. police say he had three loaded guns on him at the time. he is charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a handgun, and transporting a handgun. each count carries a count of up to three years in prison. the homeowner weighs in as he spends thousands of dollars to save his dog. >> reporter: gary is seeing his doctor going et for the first time since the surgery that probably saved her life. >> i'm so sorry. >> reporter: she was shot twice in the backyard of chevy chase d. c. the person on the other end of the gun was metropolitan police officer. >> i was sick to my stomach. >> reporter: he was about 30 might be its from home that he got a call it was just a false alarm but police were already on their way. this is the way they would have walked through. soon after he received another

phone call that his dog needed help. the only thing i prayed let her be alive. his in front yard he said he was greeted by three officers. where is my dog. and immediately they surrounded me and they say look if you want some trouble we'll lock you up. he went around the back of the house. when i came in they had her pinned down with a pole right here. this was all covered in blood. give jet is a border dolly australian shepherd mix. >> we often describe it as being aggressive. teeth exposed ears were pulled back and the dog was running towards the officer. >> reporter: the incident is being investigated. >> it's important to remember when they're responding, they're assuming that the house is being burglar rised. so they're under a sense of hidenned alert. >> reporter: supervisors on the scene treated him with great

>> great question. >> it is a good question. there are different -- tucker and i talked about this and said what we thought. and we were both pretty much close. tucker was really right on it, essentially for the most part usually what we see -- i think i should say usually when you see that quick flash, usually typically white. however the color of lightning can vary based on what the light is traveling through before it reaches your eye or what the lightning is traveling through as well rain drops, snow. remember we have some of those thunder snowstorms, all of that will affect the way lightning will appears to. correct, tucker? >> yes. >> what conditions make what color happen? >> that's great you would ask. thank you for asking. >> let's go to the graphics and we can talk about that. >> perfect set up. >> there we go, colors are based on what the light passes

bob varner has the story now. >> reporter: at a ford dealership they're loading boxes of food into a suv. >> it was about 500 pounds worth of food that has been donated just this morning. >> reporter: donations to a an organization called c cap that has cared for the community need for 35 years. >> they provide food, clothing, and sometimes they even provide financial assistance. when a community organization like that is stolen from, it breaks your heart. >> reporter: a van use by c cap to pick up and deliver donated food and clothing was stolen two weeks ago. the charity suspecting it was an inside job giving police the name of a one time volunteer. >> once we started checking and doing our investigation, it was determined that the personnier rod sander horn from already rain ohio was actually the person who actually took the van. >> reporter: on the way to
